In the NICU

Premature infants are extremely fragile and many begin their treatment at the most basic survival level. Through specific research-based techniques, music therapy has been proven successful in:

  • Increasing premature infants' tolerance to stimulation
  • Resulting in faster weight gain
  • Decreasing length of stay

The National Institute for Infant and Child Medical Music Therapy provides the education and training necessary for eligible Board-Certified Music Therapists provide safe and developmentally appropriate music therapy services to the infants in the NICU setting.
